Runic
Groupe espagnol créé en 2000 à Castellón, tout récemment signé par Massacre Records, RUNIC n'avait auparavant qu'une seule démo à son actif, Awaiting The Sound Of The Unavoidable , sortie en 2001. Ce CD comporte six morceaux, cinq composés par Runic, le dernier, "The Search", étant adapté de la bande originale du film "Conan le Barbare", en hommage à son compositeur Basil Poledouris.

Le groupe voue une admiration profonde aux Vikings, pense que le paganisme correspond à un besoin de liberté dans une société christanisée.

Dans le registre du black metal folklorique, RUNIC frappe très fort. RUNIC pourrait être comparé à ENSIFERUM

RUNIC, c'est une guitare essentiellement black, des vocaux et une rythmique à la DARK TRANQUILLITY, des nappes de clavier qui font beaucoup penser à GRAVEWORM (Liar Flags, To The Fallen Ones) et des incursions folkloriques (au clavier, à la guitare acoustique et à la cornemuse !) tenant plus de la musique de film que de l'accompagnement d'une gigue de farfadets autour d'un feu.

Le principal reproche que j'avais tendance à faire au genre, c'est de ne pas toujours parvenir à équilibrer plus justement la section heavy et les mélodies folkloriques. Chez RUNIC, je trouve cette association parfaitement équilibrée. Le folklorique s'avère relativement sobre tout en étant joliment pensé et judicieusement intégré.

Le résultat fait de Liar Flags un excellent album, à mon sens l'un des meilleurs du genre. Epique, riche, passionnant de bout en bout, les amateurs de black épique et mélodique devraient grandement apprécier.

Excellente surprise en provenance d'Espagne que l'on connaissait davantage, « metaliquement » parlant, pour ses groupes de heavy. RUNIC vient de signer un grand album de black / death folklorique et devrait faire parler de lui ces prochaines années. A ne pas rater !

Eluveitie

Eluveitie
Eluveitie est un groupe de Celtic/Pagan Metal suisse créé en 2002.
Formé par Chrigel Glanzmann comme studio-project au début, le groupe décida de jouer du metal traditionnel additionné de musique folk celtique.
Dans plusieurs chansons, Eluveitie utilise le gaulois helvète, un langage plus ou moins éteint, à la base utilisé par les anciens helvètes des clans celtes. Eluveitie signifie "Je suis le suisse" en ancien gaulois.
A la suite de la sortie de leur album "Vên" en octobre 2003, ils signent en 2004 un contrat avec Fear Dark Records, qui distribue donc leur nouvel album, Spirit, en 2006
